The official opening of the exhibition entitled “Lo stemma in ceramica. Iconografia dello Stemma nella ceramica di San Marino” (“The Coat of Arms in Ceramics. The iconography of the Coat of Arms in San Marino Ceramics”) will take place at 17:30 on 7 December 2023 at the State Museum. The event has been organised under the Sponsorship of their Excellencies the Captains Regent and the State Office for Education and Culture.
The fascinating display comprises about forty fine pieces which illustrate the various ways in which the Coat of Arms of the Republic of San Marino has been interpreted by different ceramic artists and factories since the Thirties.
“Over the years the coat of arms, which features constantly in our daily lives, such as on car registration plates, identity documents and the letterhead of all official communications,” underlines Paolo Rondelli, Director of the Cultural Institutes of the Republic of San Marino, ”has also provided inspiration for San Marino’s craftsmen, appearing, for example, in various stylised forms, on all works by the small State’s artisan potters and on a large proportion of mass produced items in the years when tourists were more interested in purchasing local souvenirs less in products which could be found and replicated elsewhere.”
The exhibition has been organised by Cino Mularoni Foundation, established on 7 December 1982 with the mission of running projects of cultural and academic interest, encouraging studies and research, supporting young academics in their education and specialisation, and undertaking and supporting publishing projects.
“We feel we can safely state,” Stefania Leardini, President of the Cino Mularoni Foundation, affirmed, ”that we have cast new light on this splendid past, still very much alive and valued amongst its protagonists, their relatives and the many connoisseurs, and have helped to protect and prevent the dispersal of rare pieces of fundamental importance.”
The Exhibition will be open to the public from 7 December 2023 to 10 March 2024.
