We’ve become used to seeing them everywhere: the social media platforms are full of videos of them travelling by motorbike complete with helmet and sunglasses, swimming alongside their owners, opening doors or facing down bulldogs and wild horses. But we hadn’t had a builder yet. Well, at Hod HaSharon in the Central district of Israel, a sweet little black and white cat called Ugiya decided to meticulously oversee the work on the construction of a new home, his own, all carefully documented in an Instagram profile, @cat_the_builder, dedicated entirely to him and his role as director of works.
From design to choice of materials, the intrepid feline was ever-present, sometimes ruffled and sometimes annoyed, together with his adoptive family, just like a real director of works, focusing in particular on the installation of the flooring. “Finally something convenient and hygienic,” he seems to think during a break in the works, as he rests his face on a tile from the Alchimia collection by Ceramica del Conca, a large-size white decor. Ugiya made sure to be present during the opening of the impressive large cardboard boxes, showing off under the amused gaze of the workmen. He made use of every observation point – ladders, scaffolding and beams – to check that the tiles were properly installed, with narrow joints perfect for rectified large sizes like Alchimia. There was just one aim: a comfortable home, full of light and spaces where he could hide and get up to mischief without dirt being a problem. In fact, stoneware tiles are really easy to clean and maintain.
The Alchimia porcelain stoneware collection, currently in the range in both the indoor version of 8.5 mm and in the due2 outdoor variant, is available in sizes 120x120, 80x80, 60x120 and 40x80 in the colours Bianco, Grigio, Moka and Nero.
