The Stavlos Luxury Stone House used to be an old stable, but now this home, just a few minutes from Ialysos beach on Rhodes, provides moods and spaces for an unforgettable holiday with its 3 bedrooms with loft ceilings and two bathrooms.
The interior design project, by architect Nilay Durukanli, draws heavily on tradition to maintain the country chic character of the structure, partly in original stone. The outdoor area, designed as an extension of the interior with the aid of large sliding glass doors, also maintains the style of the original landscape. Where thoroughbred horses used to stand there is now a fantastic private pool, lined with small hexagonal turquoise tiles, while a convenient barbecue offers the basis for outdoor dining and private poolside parties.
The communal area, bedrooms and bathrooms all have massive bare beams, and black and white pictures of horses feature on the walls. Wood, the main material of the furnishings, adds warmth to the atmosphere created with the Vignoni terracotta-effect porcelain stoneware floor tiles by Ceramica del Conca. The large size of the tiles, chosen in Noce colour, in no way detracts from the terracotta tiles’ rich historical and traditional texture: in fact, it emphasises and highlights it, in a perfect combination with salvaged materials and custom-made furniture. The same tiles, in 80x80 size, were used throughout the house. In the centre of the large living room and live-in kitchen is a composition created with the Castiglione decor (link to https://www.delconca.com/en/collections/del-conca/vignoni/cotto/), also from the Vignoni floor and wall tile collection. Coffered wood-effect porcelain stoneware with Renaissance-style decorations inside the coffered squares.
The intense green-painted house is surrounded by rich vegetation and various points for socialisation. A stone bar counter, a brazier surrounded by sofas and sun loungers and dining tables provide a charming, comfortable lounge.
Rhodes old town, a UNESCO world heritage site, is about 15 minutes’ drive from the house. The Valley of Butterflies, the Acropolis of Lindos and wonderful beaches are all less than an hour away.
